Youth Stuff

Jump In

I recently ventured out to catch the new Hulk flick and I have to say that I was more than a little entertained.  Besides the outrageously sweet special effects and solid acting, the movie carried with it several deeper messages, such as self control, good versus evil, perseverance, and coveting after another’s abilities.  Throughout much of my college career I studied the changes in speech communication over the past several years.  Traditionally you may have been able to clearly identify the speech as it came at you, for example a lecture, sermon, or debate.  Today, however, communication scholars have come to agree that the messages sent in film, television, advertisement, and video games are just as powerful as traditional forms, but are constant in their persuasive attempts. With this in mind I ask you, “What messages have you been listening to?” & “How have you been filtering through what’s True or false?”   As a youth group it’s our desire to not only discover what is True and how it applies to us today in 2008, but also what does it look like when we as young people practically follow the Truth.  As many of you know we typically come together as middle school and high school students three times a week.

On Sunday mornings from 9:00-10:00am we get together in the youth room for “Doughnuts with Jesus”.  It’s not always easy to wake up, but the beautiful smell of sugar soaked bread and juice combine with honest questions, as we discover what the Bible says is a delicious win-win situation.

Sunday from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m., we come together in the youth room for a larger group setting as we play some sweet games, laugh a lot, check out a sweet worship band, and get hit with a relevant and challenging message centered on how did/does Jesus life affect me today.

For the rest of the summer on Wednesday nights @ 6:30, we will be leaving from the church to go swimming as we ask honest questions and seek the Truth, while watching Doug do perfect cannonballs into the Kesingers beautiful pool.

Also, don’t be afraid to get involved with any of the up and coming July youth camps as word on the street is there is still a couple spots left open for our youth retreat to Colorado “Great Adventure”; and of course don’t forget to check out our coming ladies and guys nights, paintball trip, and our Mission KC/Worlds of Fun trip.  Never be afraid to ask questions, jump in, and get involved,
                                                                        Praise Him,
                                                                        - Brent
